Behind the Camera ~ Child Photographer Dayboro

With so many new likers on the Facebook page this week (WOOHOO thank you everyone!) I thought i’d better introduce myself properly as you are all probably wondering who is this photographer named Nikki??

I met my yummy husband Luke at our church and we got married the first day of spring 2009.  A few years later and lots of prayers (thats another long story) along came our twin boys Reuben & Maxwell.  Life with two year old twins is crazy busy, and then running a portrait photography business on top of all that ~ some might say is even crazier!  But I love being a Mum to our two boys and I would feel like my arms had been chopped off if I couldn’t pick up my camera!!

My first camera was my mum’s 120mm film box brownie that I would take on family holidays when I was little, but my real photography journey started back in high school (I was lucky my school had a darkroom), and my art teacher actually handed me a uni application because he thought I had real talent and an eye for creativity ~ so off I went to uni in 1997 and a few years later after filling my head with all things photography I graduated with my piece of paper.  Shortly after finishing my degree I was very blessed to work alongside some amazing Brisbane photographers, who helped me to learn about business and start me on a solid professional path.  Nikki Paice photography began in 2000, with a name change to Peas & Carrots Photography in 2004 specialising in children’s portraiture ~ I opened up my first studio space in 2007 close to the city in Clayfield.  Sadly I closed the studio when I went on bedrest during my pregnancy with the boys, and that is when my husband and I decided to make our move to the country!  We now live on a mountain in Kobble Creek with an amazing view from my home office looking out over Dayboro (North West of Brisbane), and I get to edit beautiful images and enjoy the views of the countryside at the same time! On top of that I don’t have to go far to find amazing locations for portrait sessions, we are blessed with some gorgeous spots out here.  I’ve also been an accredited member of the AIPP since joining in 2007.

Hrm, what else…..I love chocolate (a little too much), baby animals (not the band haha), sewing dresses and handbags, going to op shops and looking for vintage finds from the 50’s and 60’s (I’m sure I was born in the wrong era), and I love our chickens Betsy, Nancy and Doris ~ see they even have vintage names, they are super friendly and love being cuddled.  I love baking ~ I make awesome cheesecakes, but can’t cook to save myself.  My favourite thing to do is watching romantic movies like Notting Hill or You’ve got Mail on a rainy day snuggled up in bed, and singing to Fleetwood Mac at the top of my lungs driving in the car. I’ve also lived in Port Macquarie (technically my home town), Ballina, Lennox Head, and Townsville.  And I will be turning 37 very soon and that is a bit scary!

Okay i’ve written a short novel, so you all know a little bit more about me, Nikki Joyner!
